Green Swap

Come for inspiration or swap a plant!

Do you have plants at home or in your dorm room that no longer fit on the windowsill? An overgrown pothos, a snake plant, or rooted cuttings waiting for a new home? Bring them along and give them the chance to thrive somewhere new.

And if you don’t have any plants yet, that’s perfectly fine – come and pick out a new green treasure or plant a cutting right on site and take home a ready-to-grow plant. 🌱

At the swap you can:

exchange houseplants,
take home new green treasures,
plant cuttings directly on site,
exchange gardening books,
pass on plant pot covers.

📍 University Square, in front of the Faculty of Chemical Technology building

Planting on site

Soil, plastic pots, and basic planting tools will be available, so you can plant your chosen cutting right away and take your new plant home. Planting will take place outdoors and on a smaller scale.

To make the swap enjoyable for everyone

please bring only healthy plants without pests,
if possible, label your plants with their name.

Who is the event for?

The event is open to everyone who enjoys greenery, sharing, and a sustainable approach to growing plants. Come chat with others, get inspired, and take home a new green treasure.

Installation of the Wooden Sculpture “Tree of Life” Ing. Radka Stárková Thu, 03/05/2026 - 19:08

As part of the popular science event Researchers' Night at the 51�Թ��, an original wooden sculpture titled “Tree of Life” was created in cooperation with Sféra Pardubice. The artwork will be installed in the university library.

The sculpture was created by the event participants themselves, who had the opportunity to actively take part in the creative process and leave their mark on the university. And it is by no means a small piece – the sculpture measures 2.6 m in height and 1.2 m in width.

The Tree of Life sculpture is made of wood and stabilised moss. The combination of these natural materials symbolises growth, connection, and harmony – values closely linked to both scientific discovery and the academic environment. Stabilised moss also introduces a natural element of greenery into the interior without requiring maintenance, highlighting the ecological dimension of the installation.

The ceremonial installation of the sculpture will take place in the library on 20 March, swhich is the astronomical first day of spring. On the same day, campus activities titled Sustainable Spring at UPCE will also be launched. These activities connect themes of sustainability, responsible environmental stewardship, and active engagement of the university community.

The placement of the sculpture in the library is intentional. The library is a place of study, concentration, and inspiration. The Tree of Life installation aims to bring a touch of nature into this space, enhance the environment for students and staff, and create a more stimulating and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for both daily work and relaxation.

The artwork will remain a lasting reminder of the spirit of Researchers’ Night, while also symbolising the university’s openness to the public, collaboration, creativity, and a responsible approach to the future.

Give your old phone a second life

How many unused mobile phones are sitting in your drawer? Now is the perfect time to put them to good use. Join our mobile phone collection campaign and help bring valuable materials back into circulation.

The Centre for Sustainable Development at the 51�Թ��, in cooperation with Remobil, z.s. is organising a collection of used mobile phones from 20 March to 20 April. The aim is to promote recycling, conserve precious raw materials, and support responsible electronic waste management.

Why get involved?

🔋 Enable the recovery of valuable metals and materials
🌍 Contribute to environmental protection
📊 Take part in a nationwide record attempt for the number of collected mobile phones
❤️ For every phone collected, Remobil will donate CZK 10 to a charitable project

How to participate

Find an unused mobile phone at home.
Delete your personal data (we recommend performing a factory reset).
Drop the phone into one of the designated collection boxes on campus.

All donated phones will be processed in an environmentally responsible way or prepared for reuse.

On Wednesday, 25 March 2026, 4th annual Let’s clean the UPCE Campus will take place. Together, we will help tidy the surroundings of the 51�Թ�� and contribute to a cleaner, more pleasant environment for both study and leisure.

Why join the event?

At first glance, the campus appears clean. However, a short walk through the woodland behind the Rectorate reveals items that simply do not belong in nature – see the photo gallery for yourself.

The University campus is a place where you spend a significant part of your time. By coming together to clean up the area, we aim not only to improve its appearance but also to promote a responsible approach to the environment and strengthen our sense of community across faculties.

In just 90 minutes, we can make a visible difference together.

The HR Award Department and the Department of Physical Education and Sport warmly invite you to an Angel Afternoon for the children of 51�Թ�� employees.

On Thursday, December 4, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, join us at the Department of Physical Education and Sport (building TA) for an afternoon full of sports and creative activities. Children can look forward to exciting sports stations and crafting with Advent themes. After completing the stations, each child will receive a gift package from St. Nicholas.

The event is intended for the children and grandchildren of employees, as well as for the children of PhD students.

Please note: Access to the sports area is only allowed without outdoor shoes—bring indoor shoes (for both children and parents). Locker keys can be collected at the reception desk—please present your employee card.

Registration is required. You can find the registration link HERE (please fill in number of children).

Join us in helping where it's truly needed. By participating in the material donation drive, you can support three non-profit organizations: Fund for Endangered Children, Regional Charity Pardubice, and Remobil.

When: May 13, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Where: In front of the main entrance of the Faculty of Transport Engineering building (DB)

What can you donate?

For the FUND FOR ENDANGERED CHILDREN:

Clothing – for children aged 3 and up, including adult sizes (up to XL)
Footwear – for children aged 3 and up, including adult sizes
Hygiene products – laundry gels, fabric softeners, laundry disinfectants, soap, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, toilet paper, tissues, wet wipes, disinfectants, toothpaste, deodorants, etc.
Food – milk, oil, rice, pasta, lentils, flour, canned goods, spices, cereals, juices, ketchup, bottled water, etc.
Other necessities – travel bags, suitcases, stringing beads, small items for children (hair ties, clips, headbands, rings, sunglasses, etc.)

For REGIONAL CHARITY PARDUBICE:

School supplies – tempera paints, compasses, notebooks, cases (for first-grade children), notebook covers, bottles and lunch boxes, small whiteboards, folders (small and large), pencil cases, erasable pens, regular pencils, gym equipment, sports backpacks, colored pencils (Gioconda, Progresso), art tablecloths, colored paper, water cups for painting, small toys, etc.

For REMOBIL:

Old and unused mobile phones and chargers
(For each donated phone, 10 CZK will be donated to the Jedlička Institute and associated schools for charitable purposes.)
